Second Life.

SLNN reader now works with RL French designer
by Scarlett Qi
October 08, 2007
Yogi Huldschinsky and Clara Setsuko, both of ConceptSL, review last minute details

ELYSEUM:  Skye Qi read an article in SLNN (http://www.slnn.com/article/pink-for-life/ ) that captured her interest.  Her Victorian pink fashions were accepted for display in the “Pink for Life” exhibition.  Shortly thereafter in a dream come true, she found herself working one-on-one with a real life French designer, Lisbeth Buonanno, to construct her fashions in Second Life.
The Gustave Roussy Cancerology Institute (IGR) in France is sponsoring “Pink for Life/Du Rose pour la Vie,” a breast cancer awareness event held simultaneously in SL as well as RL on October 9 and 10.  Real life guests can attend the exhibition and auction on the Champs Elysées in Paris, in the art gallery of Hotel Dassault-Artcurial.  In SL, visit http://slurl.com/secondlife/Elyseum/184/192/61

Buonanno is a painter, haute couture fashion designer as well as costume designer for French operas (http://www.creationcostumes.fr/ ).  This artist donated a painting as well as a pink and gold flowing gown created for an opera, in the style of Buonanno’s gowns on display at the Carrousel du Louvre costume exhibition.  Working only with real fabric, Buonanno had no idea how to reproduce the gown in SL.  Yogi Huldschinsky of ConceptsSL stepped in to act as the intermediary, introducing Buonanno to Qi.

Qi is owner of Vintage Clothing Reproductions in SL and creates Victorian attire based on reproductions of actual fashions at the time.  With a charter store in Pamran (
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pamran/61/152/23 ), Vintage Clothing Reproductions has branches in Victoria City and Steam Sky City in Caledon; Fatima’s Love; Hogwarts and Tombstone.  Qi has recently opened a new sim called Oak Tree Shoppes, dedicated to giving promising new designers in any venue an opportunity to get a business start in SL.

“My best and dearest RL friend of 22 years is dying of metastatic breast cancer.  She has had a horrible battle over the past 7 years and is reaching the end, I believe.  So whenever there are fundraisers for breast cancer, I jump in if I can,” Qi said.

The Taffeta Dressing Gown was the first dress submitted in honor of Qi’s friend and it was accepted for the exhibition.  Qi then began work creating Buonanno’s pink and gold gown for SL.  Several e-mails a day were exchanged between Buonanno and Qi, which proved difficult for Qi as they were in French, a language she did not speak.  “She would give me suggestions on how to make it look more correct,” Qi said.

Huldschinsky shared this anecdote.  “I remember in the last round, Buonanno made me take toilet paper and fold it to look like a node [in the special curve she wanted on the SL gown].  When I told her we worked with spheres and cubes she was amazed.”

Qi chuckled and added, “Yes, it is like trying to drape plywood.”  “Anyway, we had a lot of feedback from her [ Buonanno] until she was totally satisfied by the work,”

Huldschinsky added.  “The designing task was really difficult for Skye and she did a perfect job.  (The RL haute couture stylist is happy.  What else can you ask for?)”

The “Pink for Life” event has run for five years in real life, with all proceeds to go to the IGR for breast cancer research.  Most items donated for this event have been created specifically for the event.  ConceptsSL, an interactive communication agency, donated their time, expertise and construction of the Exhibition Hall where SL “Pink for Life” events will take place.  Concerts will be held at noon SLT both October 9 and 10, with additional concerts and DJ sessions throughout both days.  A video of the SL event will be shown at the Champs Elysées event.

SL Shoppers and supporters of this cause can expect to find great treats.  Skye Qi is offering 6-8 Victorian dresses.  Clear glasses and sunglasses are on sale from famous designers like Oakley, Christian Roth, Alain Mikli and Jean-François Pinton.  The French SL Design School created a pink plant, while Cube3 offered a pink seating pod.  Photographer Vint Falken is represented as well as delicate gorgeous jewelry from Kurston Brody of EC&M.  All proceeds from in-world sales go to IGR.

SL artists who have donated items for sale or display for the benefit are Skye Qi, Vint Falken, Seagel Neville, Kurston Brody of EC&M, SLNews.fr, Larry Rosenthal of Cube3.com, David DuCasse of French SL Design School and Digit Darkes.  Real life designers participating are Valentin Weirich, Stephane Sarnin (Histoire de Voir), Alain Mikli, Lisbeth Buonanno, Infinity, Zyriab Hamadouche, Jean-François Pinton, Ricardo Nava, Christian Roth, Oakley and Jerome Morrilere (Koali - Morel/Cottet).

Operation « Pink for life » (Du Rose pour la Vie) The cancer research Institute, Gustave Roussy, first European research center in cancer research is launching in October 2007 : "Pink For Life". This operation is organized to raise awareness about breast cancer, during Pink October, international month for the fight against breast cancer. October 9 and 10, 2007 on the Champs Elysees (Paris), will be organized an exhibition followed by an auction of exposed items. Items are donated by famous fashion designers and luxury brands. All Items and artistic creations will share a common point: they have to be pink! ConceptSL, the interactive communication agency, organizes the Second Life side of this event: The Second Life operation will be in two phases : a Second Life exhibition of items/creations from SL designers and an EBay auction of these items. To allow a maximum of people to see the exhibition and bid in the auction, the exhibition will take place from October 1st to October 10 on Second Life. Auctions will be opened on EBay in the same period. They will be closed October 10; and items will then be given to their new owners. Second Life Designers We are looking for items and artistic creations to prepare the exhibition in 4 categories: Furniture, Clothes, Accessories, Misc. A maximum of 20 objects will be exposed and sold for each category. Only one design constraint: the items must be pink (a pink painting, pink jewelry, pink dress, etc.). The event will be hosted on Elyseum, in the exhibitions hall. All the sales profit will be donated to breast cancer research.
